Ugh! This book was not a good experience for me. I have enjoyed this series except Braham and Charlottes book which was waaaay to long/drawn out. But it was still a good story. But this book was just terribly frustrating.First off, the premise of this book wasn’t legitimate to me that the family would be called back in time to rescue a girl that wasn’t even related to the family.But The thing that bothered me the most was the author did not stay true to the characters of Kit and Cullen. In my opinion they were selfish, childish, and totally acted out of character from who they are. I was so annoyed that about halfway through I had to stop reading. I just wasn’t enjoying it and was so frustrated with all the ridiculous amount of crisis that was happening one after the other.Another major issue was I just couldn’t stand Jack anymore. We’ve already put up with his selfish antics in Charlottes book, and I just couldn’t believe the author hadn’t had him learn his lesson yet after being in a civil war prison on trial for murder.Normally I would return the book, but because I’ve invested in the series I decided to let it go for a while till I felt like reading again. That ended up being about six months (and this is coming from someone that usually finishes the book in 2 or 3 days).I finally decided to pick it back up where I left off because I was tired of it sitting in my KU. It got a little better for me after that point. But not wanting to spoil anything, all I can say is I thought Jack’s reaction to what happened to him was not believable at all and against his characterization.I’ve since read the next couple books in the series and they are better than this one. I had been eagerly awaiting this latest installment in the Celtic Brooches series and it did not disappoint! What a ride... talk about emotional whiplash. I never knew where the next jolts would come from but come they did, from every possible corner. The Three Brooches was an exhilarating ride full of drama, suspense, intrigue, romance, and above all family - even if I often wanted to throttle half the family for what they were putting everyone through!You probably don't have to read the earlier books to enjoy this one, but doing so would provide a lot of the background and context for this story.
